A FASD Story: A Therapeutic Space for Voices Through Art Making

A FASD Story: Creating Space for Voices Through Artmaking is an art workbook co-created by

five individuals with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) and an art therapy intern. It is

designed to be a tangible and supportive resource for individuals with FASD to use

independently or with the help of support people in a group environment. Through shared stories

and personal expressions in art, this workbook provides strengths-based and

neurodevelopmentally considerate prompts that encourage self-awareness and self-expression,

fostering a sense of capability and intrinsic understanding. At this workbook’s core is an antioppressive

approach witnessed through the voices and stories of individuals with FASD. This

workbook intends to create a sense of connection between one another, develop strengths and

achieve a version of what healthy outcomes look like in each person’s story.
